Tufaro was in stable condition at St. Vincent’s Medical Center on Wednesday, police spokesman Av Harris said. Police Capt. Richard Evans said Tuesday evening that Tufaro suffered severe head and facial injuries. She was in critical condition Tuesday.
Dead in the incident was Shylane Michelle Crooks, 50, of Bridgeport. Crooks was crossing the road in the area of the Valero gas station at 406 Huntington Turnpike around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when she was struck by a BMW driven by a woman police later identified as Tufaro.
“After striking Crooks, the operator of the BMW veered to the right striking a tree and a 2004 Honda CRV ... that was exiting the gas station,” Evans said.
The three occupants of the Honda were taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center Tuesday.
One 40-year-old man has been released, Harris said. Police did not supply information on his residency.

But the manager of the gas station, Jeffrey Abidin, said the BMW appeared to be traveling at speeds somewhere in the range of 50 to 80 mph. Police Chief Armando Perez said he believes the speed limit there is 25 mph.
The investigation into Tuesday’s accident is ongoing.
Dispatch reports indicated at least 21 pedestrian have been hit by vehicles from Oct. 1 to Tuesday, but Crooks was the only fatality in nearly three months.
The last pedestrian fatality in the city was on Aug. 16 in the 300 block of Old Town Road. Police said 72-year-old Albert Youle was crossing the street to get to his car when he was hit. The driver of the vehicle that hit him stayed on scene and cooperated with police.
